To give some background AMSA became the national regulator of domestic commercial vessels in 2013, making the rules and regulations for domestic commercial vessels consistent around Australia.This new certificate of competency ,currently known as exemption 38 will sit between a general purpose hand and a coxswain grade 2nc permitting the holder to operate on a range of domestic commercial vessels performing simple duties includingoperational limits and training and assessments.
Seafarers already performing the duties that a holder of an exemption 38 would perform will be recognised for their prior experience.
AMSA is preparing to deliver all regulatory services such as certificate approvals and unique identifiers nationaly from July 1st 2017
